DURAN DURAN - THE
BEGINNING 1979

|
- "Demo 1979"
The History Behind Demo 1979: Andy Wickett rehearsed with Duran
Duran and Vision Collision in his room at Cheapside while Steven Duffy's
band 'The Hawks' rehearsed downstairs in the veranda. Andy Wickett
worked the Night shift at Cadburys Bournville. In the day he'd try out
his new ideas with the band. One night he wrote the melody to 'Girls on
Film'. He found a lyric in his book: "girls in film they look
better, girls in film always smile". John Taylor suggested that he
change it to girls 'on' film. Andy told Nick Rhodes to introduce the
song by playing the melody on his string machine and the song was born.
They recorded the song along with: See me repeat me, Reincarnation, and
Working the Steel as part of their first demo at Bob Lamb's studio in
Moseley. Nick's dad took Nick and Nigel to see the London record
companies. Andy phoned Nick from the factory and was overjoyed to hear
that EMI and A&M loved his voice and would sign the band if they
could produce more songs like Girls on Film. However Andy left the band
for personal reasons. The album was recorded before John Taylor made a
full transition to bass and before members Andy Taylor and Simon Le Bon
joined the band.

- "Planet Earth"
is the debut single by Duran Duran, released on 2 February 1981.
The band members are
Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Roger Taylor, Andy Taylor and Nick Rhodes.
The single was an immediate hit
in the band's native UK, reaching #12 on the UK singles Chart on 21
February, and did even better in Australia, hitting #8 to become Duran
Duran's first Top 10 hit anywhere in the world. "Planet Earth"
begins with a slow synthesized sweep backed with electronic rhythm, but
the real rhythm section of throbbing bass and crisp drums soon kick in.
Muted guitar carries the up-and-down melodic hook of the song as Simon
Le Bon joins in. The song was the first
to explicitly acknowledge the fledgling New Romantic fashion movement,
with the line "Like some New Romantic looking for the TV
sound".

- "Careless
Memories" is the second single, released on 20 April 1981. The band's debut single
"Planet Earth" had been a Top 20 hit, so it was regarded as a
major setback when "Careless Memories" stalled at #37 in the
UK charts, particularly as it was to herald the June release of the
debut album Duran Duran. It has since come to light that the decision to
release the single was not the band's, but EMI's. After its failure,
executives decided to let Duran Duran choose their own single releases.
The band's first selection was "Girls on Film" and it duly
became their first Top 5 hit in the UK.

- "Duran Duran"
is the debut album by Duran Duran. Released worldwide the 15th June 1981. The album
reached #3 in the UK charts and remained in the chart for 118 weeks,
eventually achieving platinum status in late 1982.The initial release
was largely ignored in the US, but the album was reissued there in 1983
following the success of the band's second album, Rio. This time it
reached #10 on the US Billboard 200, and remained on that chart for 87
weeks. Duran Duran was certified platinum (a shipment of one
million units) by the RIAA on 4 June 1985. The US versions of this
release included the "Night Version" of "Planet
Earth" instead of the original. "To The Shore" was
dropped from the US track listing to accommodate the-now increased length
of "Planet Earth".

- "Girls on Film"
is the third single, released on 13 July 1981. The single became Duran
Duran's Top 10 breakthrough in the UK, peaking at Number 5 on 25 July. Its
success was particularly gratifying for the band, who had personally
selected it for release following the failure of its predecessor, "Careless
Memories", which had been chosen by their record company, EMI. It's
popularity provided a major boost to sales of the band's eponymous début
album, Duran Duran, which had been released a month earlier. The song did not chart in
the United States on its initial release, but it became popular and widely
known after receiving heavy airplay on MTV when the Duran Duran album
was re-issued in 1983.

- "My Own Way"
is the fourth single originally released as a stand-alone single on 16
November 1981. The single was designed
as a stop-gap release to capitalize on the Top 5 success of "Girls
on Film" and to provide a gateway to the band's forthcoming second
album. The 7" single and 12" versions were recorded in October
1981, well before the rest of the Rio album was recorded in the early
months of 1982. "My Own Way"
was another hit, peaking at #14 on the UK Chart, and was even more
successful in Australia, where it became Duran Duran's second Top 10 hit
at #10. Seven weeks at #1 in Portugal after the #1 of "Girls on
Film" and "Planet Earth". On 12 April 1982 enter to #4 on
the Portuguese charts. Despite its success, the
single has often been cited by the band as their least favorite and is
rarely played live. Nick Rhodes has expressed astonishment that "My
Own Way" performed better than 1987's "Skin Trade", which
ended the band's record of twelve consecutive Top 20 hits in the UK.

and went Platinum on 26 April 1983, eventually reaching Double Platinum
status. It peaked at number six on the Billboard 200 album chart in the US

- "Hungry Like the
Wolf" was produced by Colin Thurston for the group's second studio
album Rio. The song was released on 4th May 1982 as the band's fifth single in
the United Kingdom. It reached the top five of the UK Chart, and received a
silver certification by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
- "Hungry Like the Wolf's
Russell Mulcahy-directed music video was filmed in the jungles
of Sri Lanka, and evoked the atmosphere of the film Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Although the band initially failed to break into the U.S. market, MTV placed
the "Hungry Like the Wolf" video into heavy rotation.
Subsequently, the group gained much exposure; the song peaked at the number
three spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1983, and Duran Duran became an
international sensation. The video won the first Grammy Award for Best Short
Form Music Video in 1984.

as a single in the US, although the video was very popular on MTV. However,

- "Rio" is
the seventh single, released on 1 November 1982. The song was the fourth,
final, and title single lifted from the band's album Rio, and was edited for
its release. It was issued worldwide in January 1983 and became an immediate
Top 10 hit in the UK Chart, peaking at #9 on 11 December 1982.
- The song did not attract
much notice in the US upon its initial global release, but after the band's
breakthrough hit "Hungry Like the Wolf" stormed MTV and scaled the
American charts in December 1982, radio programmers paid closer attention to
the catchy melody and insistent, intricate bass line of "Rio", and
Capitol Records reissued the single in March 1983 to great success. It is one of the band's most
recognizable songs, mostly due to its famous music video, which is widely
regarded as symbolic of 1980s glamour and excess.

- As part of Capitol's shift in marketing
strategy for Duran Duran to develop into a dance band over the course of
1982 (in a bid to shift more units of the Rio album), it was decided to
release an EP of remixed tracks in various territories globally to capitalize
on increased night-club play and to try to replicate that success
on radio.
- Part of this strategy also involved producer
David Kershenbaum remixing various Rio tracks. Most of these remixes
also appeared on the "Carnival" release as well as various twelve-inch
singles. The demand for Duran Duran material during
the autumn of 1982 was quite high. DJs who heard the new mixes could not get
enough, and started to put the dance mixes on the air. During the week of
October 2, the US version of the "Carnival" EP actually entered
the album charts at #98.It was gone by the following week. The success of the "Carnival" EP
gave the band enough clout to bring Kershenbaum back in to remix the entire
A-side of the Rio album, which was duly released in the USA in
November 1982.

- "Duran Duran"
was re-released in the USA on 25 April 1983, after the success of their
second album Rio in America gave the band another chance to market their
first album there. The album had two changes to the original American track
listing:Capitol Records replaced the "Night Version" of
"Planet Earth" with the original single version. Most notably, the
then-current Duran Duran single, "Is There Something I Should Know?"
was added to the album's track listing and "To the Shore" was
removed. The album also featured updated cover art designed by Malcom
Garrett, using the newer "double D" band logo featured on the
Seven and the Ragged Tiger album and "Is There Something I Should
Know?" single. The cover photo showed the evolution in the band's image
since 1981. In contrast to the earlier artwork, the new image positioned
each band member equally close to the camera, and demonstrated the variety
of looks within the band, from tanned adventurers to rouged androgynes. This
reflected the band's teen-focused marketing which promoted the image and
personality of individual band members, recognizing that "everyone is
someone's favourite"

Ragged Tiger"
is the third studio album, released globally 21. November 1983. It would
prove to be the last studio album for the band's original lineup until
2004's Astronaut. Simon Le Bon said the album "is an adventure
story about a little commando team. 'The Seven' is for us — the five
band members and the two managers — and 'the Ragged Tiger' is success.
Seven people running after success. It's ambition. That's what it's
about." EMI re-released the album in 2010 in two configurations
- two disc digipak and three disc (two CD, one DVD) box set. The three
disc box set includes on the DVD the first official release of the

- "New Moon on
Monday" is released as the band's tenth single in January 1984.
- The second single to be
lifted from the band's 1983 album SATRT, the song was another success,
reaching the Top 10 on both the British and American music charts. On 11
February 1984, the single reached #9 in the UK and on 17 March, it
reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Inexplicably, it did not chart
well in Australia and Scandinavia; territories where its predecessor,
"Union of the Snake", had been a big hit. This trend was
reversed with the next single, "The Reflex", which became a
worldwide number one.

- "The
Reflex" became the band's most successful single. It was their
second single to top the UK singles chart, and would prove to be their
last UK #1. It was also Duran Duran's first single to hit number one on
the US Billboard Hot 100 (for two weeks) on 23 June 1984, and became a
huge hit internationally. The band wanted it to be the lead single from Seven
and the Ragged Tiger, but their label didn't like the warbling
singing during the "why don't you use it" segments, thinking
this would hinder its success as a stand alone single track. The
remixes for both the 7" and 12" singles were done by Nile
Rodgers of Chic fame. It was his first work with the band, and he would
later go on to produce "The Wild Boys" single as well as the
album Notorious (1986) and several tracks on Astronaut (2004).
- Producer Ian Little
recalls the sound Nick Rhodes came up with on his keyboard:
"...whenever I hear that steel-drum part it always brings a smile
to my face because it's so out of tune. Steel drums always are, but it
was exactly right in terms of rhythm and tone. So a wood-block sound was
mixed in to make it even more percussive and, Bob's your uncle, it did
the job. The single was released on 16 April 1984

- "Arena"
is the live album from Duran Duran, originally
released worldwide in 1984 and reissued with two bonus tracks in 2004
(Girls on Film and Rio). The album featured most of the band's big hits
in a live environment, as well as some album tracks from Rio and
Seven and the Ragged Tiger, and a new studio track "The Wild
Boys", which was produced by Nile Rodgers, who had previously
remixed the single "The Reflex", and had been a member of the
disco/funk group Chic. At the time of release, critics were suspicious
that the mix was too polished for a live album, as most of the audience
was muted. Other criticism arose from the omission of some of the band's
biggest songs like "The Reflex", "Girls On Film" and
"Rio". However, Arena still managed to peak at #6 in
the UK and #4 in the US

|
- "A View to a
Kill" is the thirteenth single, released in May 1985. It was a stand-alone
single, created for the James Bond movie A View to a Kill, and it
remains the only James Bond theme song to have reached #1. It also made
it to #2 for 3 weeks in the UK. In 1986, John Barry and Duran Duran were nominated
for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for A View to a
Kill. The song was the last track that the
original five members of Duran Duran recorded together until their
reunion sixteen years later, in 2001. It was played at their final 1985
performance together before splitting for the very first time, at Live
Aid in Philadelphia. The single was at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 at
the time they performed it on that historic event!

- "Notorious"
is the fourth studio album. Released the 18th November 1986, it peaked at #16
in the UK and #12 in the US. The singles "Notorious" and
"Skin Trade" demonstrated a Duran Duran reaching for funk,
heavy on bass and brass. The gap between previous efforts and the new
one, however (one year removed from "A View To A Kill" and the
Arcadia/Power Station projects, two years from Arena, three from Seven
and the Ragged Tiger), was hard to handle for the greater part of the
fan base, since the album left the well-worn path of the successful
euro-dance-pop of earlier days. Many fans felt that the album seemed to
lack the sparkle of the band's peak era (roughly 1982 to 1985). In 2010,
EMI are scheduled to release a raft of material surrounding the Notorious
reissue. This includes a three disc box set, a digital only EP, and a
digital only live album. The box set is set to include remixes, live
tracks and the Working for the Skin Trade live video (for the first time
on DVD).

- "Skin Trade"
is the 15th single. It was released in February 1987, reached #22 in the
UK, and barely nudged into the Top 40 in US. "Skin Trade" was
the first chart disappointment in the band's career. Not only did it
fail to repeat the huge success of "Notorious" but it failed
to get the top 20 on either side of the Atlantic, and that was a first
for the band since their very earliest releases. "Skin Trade"
later grew to become a fan favorite, but the change of style and
direction were shocking at the time.

- "Big Thing"
is the fifth album, released worldwide on 18 October 1988. It reached #15 in the UK
and #24 in the US.
- A CD reissue (with one
bonus track) was released in 1994. The album is was reissued as a three
disc box set on September 27, 2010.
- In 1988, the musical
climate was changing, veering to a more dance-based groove. Duran Duran
were known primarily as an early '80s new wave synth-pop act, and the
band was sitting at a career crossroads; Big Thing was their stab
at maintaining mainstream popularity. Turning to more synth- and
bass-heavy grooves than their previous efforts, Big Thing was
seen by many as the band's "house music" album. Tracks like
the first single "I Don't Want Your Love", the title track,
and the album's second single "All She Wants Is" cemented the
band's more aggressive dance angle.

- "All She Wants
Is" is the eighteenth single, and the second single from the
Big Thing album. It was released in December 1988, and reached #9 in the
UK, and#22 in the US. "All
She Wants Is" had a bigger impact in the UK than its predecessor
("I Don't Want Your Love"), hitting the top ten; it was the
last of twelve UK top ten hits for Duran Duran during the 1980s. In
Europe as in the United States the single became a smash dance hit,
reaching high positions on the dance charts.

- The song "Do You
Believe in Shame?" was dedicated to three of the band's fallen
friends: record producer Alex Sadkin, artist Andy Warhol, and Simon Le
Bon's childhood friend David Miles. Le Bon has since said that
"Shame" is the first part of a trilogy of songs written as a
tribute to Miles, the other songs being "Ordinary World" and
"Out of My Mind". The song appears in the 1987 film 'Tequila
Sunrise'. Reached no higher in the charts than #30 in the UK and #72 in
the US. It also reached #14 in Italy. It was released in April 1989

DECADE 1989
|
-
|
- ...
|
- "Decade" – is
a greatest hits album, released on November 15, 1989 The remix single
"Burning the Ground" was released to radio to promote this
album; it was created by producer John Jones mixing snippets of the
band's biggest hits from the previous decade into a new piece of music.
However, the remix was not included on the Decade album. On a
whole, the Decade album acted more as a mix tape of Duran hits,
as opposed to an essential album. It cherry picked hits from all the
albums and presented them in mixes that were popular and mainstream
among the public. Hence, it includes the Nile Rodgers edit of "The
Reflex" and the radio edits of "Notorious" and "Skin
Trade". Curiously, the album (probably due to time constraints)
left off one single from each album: "Careless Memories",
"My Own Way", "New Moon On Monday", "Meet El
Presidente" and "Do You Believe In Shame?". Again,
these were probably not included because Decade was used to drum
up mainstream interest in the band, being a "greatest hits"
compilation.

- "Burning The
Ground" is the 20th single by the Band, released in December of
1989. The song is a clever megamix of Duran Duran's history, featuring
tidbits of all of the band's hits of the previous ten years. It was a
released to promote the compilation album Decade, although it was not
included on the album itself. The song also used several sound samples
from the film Barbarella, from which the band took their name:
"Barbarella?" "Mr. President!" "Your Mission,
Barbarella...find Duran Duran!"

- "Violence of
Summer (Love's Taking Over)" is the 21st single, and the
first single from the 1990 Liberty album. Having finished the
1980s with the Decade singles compilation, Duran Duran found the 1990s
a new challenge, in which success would initially elude them. The lack
of success for "Violence of Summer" would shadow the band
for the next few years, until 1993's "Ordinary World"
brought them a new lease of life. Released 23 July 1990

- "Liberty"
is the sixth studio album, released on 20 August 1990. It entered the
top 10 in the UK albums chart, and garnered a #6 hit for the single
"Serious" in Japan. Liberty is the first Duran Duran
album to feature songwriting credits outside the original five band
members. Guitarist Warren Cuccurullo and drummer Sterling Campell were
made permanent band members and given songwriting credits, although
Campbell would leave in early 1991, before the band began work on their
next album

- "Serious"
is the 22nd single. It was released 1 October 1990. By the time the
single was released, interest in the Liberty album had already
waned. Poor promotion, including a decision not to tour in support of
the album, led the single to stall at #48 in the UK charts. This was the
band's worst charting single up until that point (Eleven places lower
than their second-ever single, "Careless Memories" in
1981).Due to the commercial failure of the "Serious" single,
plans for future singles were shelved. The third single in the USA was
to have been the rocker "First Impression", while Europe were
to have gotten the album's title track, "Liberty". EMI's
decision to cancel the singles came just days before filming began on
the video for "First Impression".

- "Duran Duran
(commonly known as The Wedding Album)" is the seventh album,
and the second self-titled album. It was released on 23 February 1993.
The cover art by Nick Egan features wedding photos from the parents of
the four band members. Recording of the album was completed in early
1992 with an impending release by Capitol Records in the U.S.A. Duran
Duran's new management company, Left Bank, was distressed at the
apparent lack of enthusiasm for the album and had it pulled from the
release schedule. During this hiatus, the band began working on what
would become the Thank You album, and a Warren Cuccurullo -derived riff
of "First Impression" led to the rapid inclusion of the song
"Come Undone".

- The song's "Too
Much Information" lyrics dealt mainly with the commercialization
of the music industry and featured the tongue-in-cheek
line "Destroyed by MTV / I hate to bite the hand that feeds me /
so much information", alluding to the belief that it was solely
MTV that had made the band. Unlike the previous two
singles from The Wedding Album, "Too Much Information"
was more upbeat and rockish in nature with big chunky power chords
played by guitarist Warren Cuccurullo and live drums played by Steve
Ferrone. This may have alienated the ballad-friendly audience that were
attracted to the previous two singles, "Ordinary World" and
"Come Undone", which may have in turn led to a lower position
on the pop and adult contemporary charts. It performed much better on
the alternative rock and club charts. "Too Much Information"
peaked at #35 in the United Kingdom, and at #45 in the United States.
Released in August 1993.

- A cover version of "Perfect
Day" was the first single from the covers album Thank You. It
reached #28 in the UK. It was released in March 1995. Lou Reed has been cited as an inspiration by
several members of Duran Duran, and the album Thank You was
intended to be a tribute to the band's influences, in the style of David
Bowie's Pin Ups. The song featured a rare appearance by Duran Duran's
first drummer Roger Taylor, who left the band at the height of their
fame in 1986, and had had little contact with them in the ten years
afterward. He joined Duran Duran in the studio to record "Perfect
Day", and "Watching the Detectives" for the covers
album.

- Duran Duran recorded a
version of the song "Lay Lady Lay", appearing as track
five on their 1995 covers album, Thank You. The band released the song
as a single in Spain / Italy to promote the album. Nick Rhodes has stated
on the band's official website "I seem to remember my concern at
that time was, in fact, our record label's - Capitol in America and EMI
for the rest of the world - deciding to split their decision on their
choice for the first single, "White Lines" in the US and
"Perfect Day" for the rest of the world. Hence, there was no
worldwide focus and both territories forced to use the other track as
their second single, so it didn't really work out to be an ideal
situation for anyone. I'm not sure what I would've chosen for a second
single, possibly "Lay Lady Lay", but then I am still very
happy with the way "Perfect Day" turned out."

- "Medazzaland"
is the ninth album. It was released by Capitol Records on October 14,
1997 in the U.S., where it
reached #58 on the Billboard album chart. It was never officially
released in Europe. The album is the follow-up to the poorly-received
covers album Thank You, and bassist John Taylor left the band in January
1997 before recording was complete. With only two members remaining –
Nick Rhodes and Simon Le Bon – Duran Duran wrote and recorded several
new tracks for the album, and re-recorded songs previously done with
Taylor. His work remains on only four songs. The dismal performance of
the album led in part to the dissolution of the band's contract with EMI
after almost two decades. EMI gave the band ownership rights and the
master tapes to the Medazzaland album, as well as several
unreleased audio and videotapes of their 1995 and 1997 concerts. It was rumored
that the band would independently release the album in the UK,
but they went on to sign with Hollywood Records and released Pop Trash
instead. Medazzaland is only available in Europe as an import or
digital download.

"Out of My Mind". Numerous remixes were issued on various

ESSENTIAL - THE NIGHT VERSION 1998
|
-
|
- ...
|
- "Night Versions:
The Essential Duran Duran"
is a compilation album of remixes by Duran duran. From the very
beginning of their career, the band had dubbed the extended dance
remixes of their songs "night versions", as they were
intended for play in nightclubs. The collection includes all of the
singles released between 1981 and 1985, with the exception of their
second single Careless Memories. Unlike
many of their contemporaries, Duran Duran didn't just extend the intro
or loop the bridge section of a song to pad out a dance track for a 12
inch single. As All music explained, "According to Nick Rhodes'
liner notes, they recorded extended versions of their singles to be used
in night clubs. Rather than have the master tapes cut and taped into
remixes, Duran Duran went back into the studio and recorded longer
versions of the songs with more instrumental breaks." Also included
is a separate enhanced CD containing a bonus mix of "New Moon on
Monday". To unlock the disc and enjoy the enhanced content, users
were required to visit the DuranDuran.com official website.

- "Greatest"
was an update of the 1989 tenth anniversary compilation album, Decade.
The new release included songs from their eponymous debut album through
1997's Medazzaland. The album includes all 14 songs featured in Decade,
plus "New Moon on Monday" and four singles from the 90's,
however both "Save a Prayer" and "Rio" are presented
in their shorter US versions in order to fit on a single CD whereas they
appeared in their full versions on the former compilation. The album was
released by EMI after parting ways with the band after the disastrous
Medazzaland album, and marked the first of many releases designed to capitalize
on the band's extensive EMI-controlled back catalogue. To
coincide with the release of the Greatest album in the UK, the
song "Electric Barbarella" was released as a single. This
track was originally released as a single in North America in 1997 to
promote the Medazzaland album (which was never released
officially in the UK).As of 2009, the collection has sold over a million
copies in the United States. To date, a full collection of Duran Duran's
singles on one album still hasn't been released.

STRANGE BEHAVIOUR 1999
|
-
|
- ...
|
- "Strange Behaviour"
is a remix album of remixes by the band. It was released by EMI in March
1999. The title comes from a
line in the song "Skin Trade": "would someone please
explain, the reason for this strange behaviour". The band had
previously used "Strange Behaviour" as the name of their 1987
tour. A 1987 EP of remixes from the Notorious album that was released in
Italy and Japan under the title "Strange Behavior"
(American-English spelling without the 'u', rather than the British
spelling used here). Having dropped Duran
Duran after their 1997 album Medazzaland, EMI was keen to begin mining
the band's back catalogue. They had already released a new hits
collection called Greatest 1998) and were finally getting around to
releasing versions of songs that were not easily obtainable on CD.
- In years to come, EMI
would continue to mine the band's catalogue by reissuing the first four
albums (Arena including two bonus tracks), as well as two singles box
sets and a collection of videos.

entirely in Macromedia Flash animation. "Someone Else Not Me"
only reached #53 in the UK, a disappointing placing considering most
previous singles had hit the top 40. However, it made it to the top 10
in Latvia, #1 in Poland, and #4 in Italy. Released in April 2000.

various markets. "Sunrise" peaked at number 5 on the UK

whole new generation of fans and marked the band's first top ten since
"Ordinary World" in the UK, even though its chart stay was
only 4 weeks. Also, it was #2 in Argentina with a run of thirteen weeks,
#4 in Spain, top ten in many other European markets, and #2 in Italy

- "Nice"
is the 33rd single by Duran Duran. Released in March 2005 to radio in Europe
and as download only, it was the third single to be lifted from the
group's Astronaut album. There were no b-sides made for
"Nice", but there were a myriad of remixes available via
download. The infectious pop song was one of the first that the band
wrote after its reunion in 2001, but a final version was not recorded
until 2004 with producer Don Gilmore.

- "Falling Down"
was
sent to radio and available to download from iTunes USA on September 25,
2007. It was recorded in two sessions in Blueprint Studios, Manchester
and Sarm Studios, London. The band collaborated with Justin Timberlake,
Timbaland and Danja in writing and producing the song, as with most
other songs from the album. According to the band's official website,
the single wasn't released on cd in the USA, due to the decline of
physical singles being released in the US over passing time. However,
the single was still released on CD in several European countries on
November 12, 2007 and an 8-track promo CD was also released featuring
remixes by artists such as Sebastian Leger and T-empo.The single was the
band's last to be released on Epic Records. In the UK, the single
charted at #52, the second worst-performing single in Duran Duran's
history after "Someone Else Not Me". Contrarily, "Falling
Down" was a surprise hit in Italy, where it peaked at #2.

- "Girls Panic!"
is the second single from All You Need Is Now, and it's single number 37
from Duran Duran. Simon Le Bon originally called the song "Home
Wrecker", "Bone Wrecker", "Brain Wrecker",
"Tall Hours", "Ice Breaker", until he read something
about Carl Sagan and called the track "Pale Blue Planet". Mark
Ronson later said the song should be about girls and the following day
Nick Rhodes appeared with new lyrics and the track "Girl
Panic" was formed. The track is also released as a 7" vinyl
single on April 16,2011, featuring artwork designed by Clunie Reid.
Released in a paper fold-over sleeve inside a clear plastic slipcase,
the single was issued to the media.
